Congrats to Connie Arnhart for correctly guessing Callie Wheatley as this weeks teammate!

Callie is a rookie in the class of 10 rookies we have this year and plays STELLAR D-wing!

Callie’s “real” name is Elizabeth but a week after being born her parents decided to start calling her Callie after her middle (family) name McCallum!

Callie graduated from Centennial High School where Kaylen Keith (08′ UGA LAX alum) coached lacrosse!

We are getting very excited about this weekend! Tonight Taylor and Wiggles are hosting a pasta dinner so we can all load up on carbs for our game tomorrow! I will try and post before the game tomorrow but if not remember to follow us on twitter @ugawomenslax for game time updates if you cannot be at the games.

Weekend Re-cap (Emory & GT)

Posted: February 21, 2011 in Uncategorized

If you couldn’t make it out to our games this weekend you missed a BEAUTIFUL day for lacrosse! We hosted Emory and Georgia Tech at our Club Sports Complex and could not have asked for a better day or turnout for the games. We were so happy that so many people came out to support us! YOU ALL ARE AWESOME!

Here are some highlights about the games…

Emory (Final Score: 20-2 UGA)

We had 14 different girls score goals in this game

Lisa and Murphy each had hat tricks in the game

Kelly Arnhart, Lucie, and Callie dominated winning the draw

As a team we forced 7 turnovers

Emory did not score in the 2nd half because of our awesome draw controls, ground balls and defense

GT (Final Score: 15-4 UGA)

We had nine goal scorers in this game and 9 of the 15 goals were assisted

Lisa and Michele Manis dominated the draw

Wiggles, MC and Bean had great ground balls in the GT game

Lisa and Kat Blum had hat tricks this game and Taylor and Goose each had 2

Best of all, We played as an unselfish team on defense, in the midfield transition, and on offense. It is an HONOR to play with this team!

We are getting pumped for our games in Florida this weekend. We play UCF on Friday Night (2/25) at 6:30pm on the UCF campus and we play Florida on Saturday afternoon (2/26) at 1pm on the UF campus.

We know it is a HUGE weekend and would love your support for 2 of our toughest games all season!

Again, thank you for all the support you showed at our games this weekend and we look forward to seeing you all in FL!

WEEKEND RE-CAP

Posted: February 14, 2011 in Uncategorized

GO DAWGS!

Way to start the season off on a good note!

Friday night we traveled an hour and a half Northeast to Clemson, SC to begin our 2011 season! The game has so many high notes I will post a few…

Our freshman SOARED scoring the majority of the goals versus the Tigers

Defense was aggressive and kept the ball on the offensive side the majority of the game

Lisa and Lucie were STARS on the draw

UGA jumped out to an early 4-1 lead before closing out the first half 9-2. Clemson came out with a strong start to the second half as both teams traded goals before UGA was able to pull away and finish 16-6.

UGA hosted South Carolina on an AWESOME sunny 60 degree day in Athens, GA. Man did we have our work cut out for us today. USC is one of those teams that has been on the rise the last 3 years but goes unnoticed due to their scheduling. They lost 2 key players to torn ACL’s last year including their goalie and now senior attacker Katie Hirsch. USC jumped out to an early 4-1 lead with some quick goals from Hirsch, but UGA fought back to eventually tie the game at 5-5. Both teams traded goals before UGA was able to take an 8-6 lead at halftime. UGA was able to maintain a 3 goal lead for most of the 2nd half and eventually took a 4 goal lead at 13-9 with 10 minutes to go until USC shifted the momentum with 3 un-answered goals. Possessions went back and forth in the final 4 minutes and UGA was able to hold off an 8 meter shot with 7 seconds left for the 13-12 win. UGA was led by Freshman Lucie Weinberg with 4 goals and 1 assist. USC was led by senior Katie Hirsch who had 6 goals and 2 assists. UGA had 7 different goal scorers while USC had 6 different players finding the back of the net. Was an exciting game for sure and USC is fast, athletic, talented, and is sure to stir things up in the SWLL this year. Wish they had some non-swll competition to prove they are a top 20 team.

This weekend was BEYOND amazing! We are so lucky to have such an amazing team from our 2 seniors to our slew of rookies. We all support each other through everything and will be at each others sides in the good and bad!

We are so excited to be hosting Emory and Georgia Tech this coming weekend Feb 19th at the Club Sports Complex on Milledge. We will be playing Emory at 11am and Georgia Tech at 2pm! Please try to head out to the Classic City to support the dawgs!

Thanks to everyone who came out to our games this weekend, we ABSOLUTELY LOVE having fans!

Happy Valentines Day from the team to YOU!

REMEMBER: Look out for NAME THAT TEAMMATE TUESDAY  tomorrow :)

GAME DAY

Posted: February 11, 2011 in Uncategorized

Hey fans,

Do you ever wonder if any of the UGA laxers have any game day rituals to get us pumped for our games?  Here is what some people said…

Bean- Must wear her hair in a braid at ALL games

Callie-Listens to GREAT pump-up music

Wiggles- likes to have a pre-game dance party

Fetus-Has been known to wear a red scrunchie to game, and now will wear Constance’s (’10 alum) red ribbon

Kane- MUST wear ribbons in her hair for every game

Seidel-  MUST get a final meal in before the game

MC- Known to wear the “nappy” pony

We are all hitting the road at 4pm to drive to Clemson. Follow us on twitter @ugawomenslax for game time updates! We will at least have a half-time and end of regulation tweets, hopefully we can enlist someone to tweet goal updates too! Just remember to follow us!

GO DAWGS! Beat Clemson!

Congrats to Caren Brinker!

We will be e-mailing you information later today about your prize :)

She correctly guessed Kaitlin Shumate as the first teammate! Kaitlin is a junior attacker on the UGA Women’s Club Lacrosse Team. She is pre-med and currently studying for the MCAT. Most recently Kaitlin has been found wearing spandex with the city skyline on them. She also loves Clay (or Clayton) her beautiful dog!

Thanks to everyone who participated! We will have NAME THAT TEAMMATE TUESDAYS from now on, and we will be announcing the winner on Wednesday morning!

PS….REMEMBER OUR FIRST GAMES OF THE SEASON ARE THIS WEEKEND!

We play Clemson @ Clemson Friday Night 7pm and then play South Carolina @ HOME (Club Sports Complex on Milledge) at 1pm on Sunday!

Please plan on coming out to support the team! GO DAWGS!
